0270. Jonathan W. Meader (1828 – 1875)

Jonathan W. Meader, son of Edward Sargent Meader (1791-1866) [0142] and Clarissa Moore (d.1866), was born in Thetford, Vermont March 4, 1828 and died May 4, 1875. He married Susan Sanborn Felch June 12, 1847. She was daughter of Robert Felch and Betsey Sanborn, born April 30, 1828 in Sandwich, NH. Susan Felch was a Friend. Her mother died when she was six, and her father married again and had a large family.

Jonathan had the remarkable memory of his father. For several years he was almost totally blind. He lived in Manchester, NH but spent the last three years of his life with his sister Clarissa [0269] in New York City, suffering intensely and undergoing treatment for his eyes. He was endowed with uncommon energy and persuasion. During his suffering he wrote and published The Merrimack River and Its Sources.

2003 i. Edward Albert Meader, born February 7, 1849 in Lowell, MA.
ii. A daughter, born May 6, 1852 and died young.
